Indian National Congress

Indian National Congress is the powerful political party in India that was recognised in 1885 and had the principal role in Independence from the Britishers. This party is the second major party in India. Every general election is led by Indian National Congress due to its majority in most regions. It is however not able to win the government because of it’s numerous corruption cases that were opened before the people of India. This party has given a total of seven prime ministers but now leadership of party includes corrupt politicians like Rahul Gandhi. – BBC News Hub, 5 July 2018

VVIP Chopper Scam: ‘Mrs Gandhi’, ‘big man R’ mentioned by Christian Michel add spice to the drama – Express News Service – New Delhi – 29 December 2018

The AgustaWestland VIP helicopter scam case on Saturday witnessed a dramatic twist with alleged middleman Christian Michel bringing in the name of ‘Mrs Gandhi’ and ‘big man R’ in a special court, which extended his remand by seven days. Mrs Gandhi and big man R were apparent references to Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, though the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which produced Michel in court, did not specify who he had referred to.

ED counsel L. D. Singh told the court that Michel, in his communication with Agusta, had said the big man R was the son of an Italian lady who is going to be the next prime minister. “We need to decipher the documents to decrypt such codes,” the counsel said. In their plea, the ED said Michel during interrogation on Thursday had slipped in a folded paper, which his lawyer hid under his mobile phone.

“During medical examination, Christian Michel stood up and turned towards his advocate Aljo Joseph standing next to him and acted like shaking hands with the advocate and saying him goodbye and extended his hands for handshake. It was noticed that Michel secretly handed over a folded paper to his counsel Joseph. Joseph was carrying his mobile phone under which he hid the folded paper and put it discreetly in pocket of his jacket and acted as if nothing took place,” the remand paper read.

Agusta deal middleman abusing legal access

The ED accused Michel of misusing his legal access and sought its discontinuation. However, the court allowed continued legal access but reduced the time from the current 30 minutes to 15 minutes.

  2. Rajiv Gandhi justified 1984 riots, but decision to revoke Bharat Ratna not in my purview: Shwait Malik – Raakhi Jagga – The Indian Express / Yahoo News, 28 December 2018

Punjab BJP President Shwait Malik Friday said Rajiv Gandhi had justified the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in a public meeting.

“Rajiv Gandhi had justified the violence in 1984 and killings of Sikhs in a public meeting by saying that ‘jab bhi koi bada ped girta hai, to dharti thodi hilti hai‘. Through this statement, he had justified the 1984 riots and this cannot be forgotten.”

Although the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), BJP’s ally in Punjab, has demanded that Rajiv Gandhi’s Bharat Ratna be revoked, Malik said it is for the Government to decide upon it. “I am just a Rajya Sabha member and it cannot be decided by me alone. It is a matter to be decided by the Government of India and hence does not come in my purview.”

Malik was in Ludhiana for a BJP meeting to take stock of arrangements for PM Narendra Modi’s upcoming rally in Gurdaspur. He stated that the incidents of blackening of Rajiv Gandhi’s statue or the boards of Rajiv Gandhi were just an emotional outburst by the Sikhs.

Talking about PM’s Gurdaspur rally, he said, “It is a thanks-giving rally in which people want to thank the PM for gifting Punjab the Kartarpur corridor. SAD will also be a part of this rally. I am thus visiting various districts to take stock of the arrangements for the rally.”

He stated that even the farmers want to thank PM for revising MSP rates last year, which benefitted them a lot.
