NEW DELHI: Janata Party Chief Subramanian Swamy Monday informed a Delhi court that he has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking sanction for prosecuting Home Minister P. Chidambaram in the 2G specturm allocation scam.
Appearing before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge O.P. Saini on the direction of District Judge Pratibha Rani, Swamy also sought that along with former telecom minister A. Raja, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi should also be made an accused in the case.
“Karunanidhi should be made an additional accused in the 2G scam. I had also written a letter to the prime minister seeking sanction to prosecute Home Minister P. Chidambaram due to his complicity in this matter,” said Swamy.
Appearing before the special court, which will deal with the 2G scam cases, Swamy contended that he should be appointed as a deemed public prosecutor in the case “as this matter has to be argued”.
The court, however, asked Swamy to wait for the charge sheet, scheduled to be filed by the CBI by March 31, before taking up his submissions.
“Let us wait for the final report (CBI’s chargesheet) in the matter,” the court said while posting the matter for April 18.
Swamy’s private complaint in the 2G scam was earlier transferred to the special court constituted by the Supreme Court to deal with all cases related to the scam.
The Janata Party leader, who had sought a probe into scam, had also raised concern about the possible threat to national security arising out of allocation of spectrum to companies which had sold off their major shares to foreign firms. – The New Indian Express, Chennai, March 28, 2011
Seven more persons, including Sonia Gandhi, P. Chidambaram, Karunanidhi and his kin, will be charge sheeted by the CBI in the 2G scam, said Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy.
NEW DELHI: Talking to reports here on tuesday, he said, “they have to face the music”, adding that Kanimozhi and Karunanidhi’s two wives, Rajathi Ammal and Dayalu Ammal, will also be framed as they along with Sonia and Chidambaram allegedly were involved in the 2G Spectrum scam.
The Spectrum fraud has three major dimensions and separate charges are needed to be framed for each one of them. First and foremost, A. Raja as minister for Telecommunications committed a crime by his fraudulent allocation of the spectrum license. Secondly, many had conspired with raja in the mega scamnand for personal gains. Thirdly, licenses were sold to foreign companies which could endanger the information security of the country.
These aspects must be treated as three separate charges. If not, lawyers will only find loopholes to get adjournments and the case will be ultimately put on the back burner
Elaborating on the security threat to the nation, Swamy charhed that the beneficiaries of the spectrum license were networked with intelligence organisations including Pakistan’s ISI. – The New Indian Express. Chennai, March 28, 2011; The New Indian Express, Chennai, April 19, 2011.
