The aftermath of the sex scandal involving Swami Nityananda has even touched Mani Ratnam’s ambitious project Raavana. It is now confirmed that Tamil film star Ranjitha, who was allegedly filmed in a compromising position with Swami Nityananda, is playing a role in the Tamil version of the bilingual Raavana.
After the controversy hit national headlines, Ranjitha went underground and a shocked Mani Ratnam was for a moment faced with the dilemma of re-shooting her portions with another actress or going ahead with Ranjitha. Eventually, he opted for the latter.
Ranjitha plays the role of Raavana’s sister-in-law in the Tamil version. South Indian superstar Vikram plays the title role in the Tamil version, while he has done Ram’s role in the Hindi version.
Ranjitha has come under the spotlight after it emerged that rather than being a victim of the sting operation, she was allegedly the one who released the sex tapes with Swami Nityananda in public.
Sources in the Tamil film industry say that Ranjitha, a mother of two, fell in love with Swami Nityananda and they shared an intimate relationship. But apparently Ranjitha turned vengeful when Nityananda not only refused to marry her but allegedly also started seeing other women. - Mumbai Mirror, Mumbai, April 6, 2010

RANJITHA TO WRITE BOOK: “How to Survive a Sex Scandal”.
CHENNAI: Three months after the telecast of the controversial tapes that allegedly showed her with godman Nithyananda in a compromising position, actor Ranjita is busy working on a self-help book, tentatively titled ‘How to survive a scandal’. And the book draws on her experience.
“I am writing this based on my experiences in the past six months, and there are so many people out there feeling traumatised and suicidal,” the actor told TOI in an exclusive interview, the first after the controversy broke. “My book will help people come to terms with personal problems, and I am in talks with a couple of publishers,” she says.
“I am also writing a fiction, aimed at the youth of today, but the one drawn from my experiences will come out first,” says the actor, pushing back her smartly cut hair. ‘Autobiography Of A Yogi’ and other books by renowned spiritual gurus line the shelf in her living room. “I was always a bookworm and you move from fiction to philosophy. I am especially fond of Indian spiritual writing,” says the actor, who came to Chennai early this month. While struggling for the right word or the perfect phrase, she also took time to meet up with CB-CID officials in connection with the Nithyananda case.
Asked why she went underground when the controversy broke, Ranjita goes quiet for a minute. “I do not want to hang on to the past. I want to move on. I was very hurt and went through stress and trauma. I decided to hibernate for a while,” she says. “The media was writing so many negative things about me, and some were fabricating interviews. Things piled up one on top of the other. You need time to deal with such things, to reconcile, but people think actors do not deserve that kind of time,” she says with a rueful smile.
She quickly adds that her husband, sisters, parents and in-laws were pillars of strength. She has a short role in ‘Raavanan’, but she is yet to watch the film.

Ranjitha slaps notice on Google – Bala Chauhan
Bangalore: After almost two months Tamil actress Ranjitha, who allegedly featured in the controversial videotape with Nithyananda, on Thursday broke her silence and denied that she was in the tape with the tainted godman. Ranjitha has also sent legal notices to Internet and video giants Google and Youtube asking them to remove all the clippings of the videotape from their websites in the next 72 hours failing which she will file criminal and civil suits against them. She has also rebutted claims in a section of the press that she had deposed before the Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department or given interviews after the videotape was aired on March 2.
Her lawyer — Prashant Mendiratta — told this newspaper from Delhi that he has served legal notices to Google and Youtube through fax and courier on Thursday.
“We have asked them to take off the controversial video clippings by May 2 failing which we will file charges against them under the IPC and the Information Technology Act,” said Mr Mendiratta.
He said the videotape was shot with a “body double” of Ranjitha.
“My client is not a devotee of Nithyananda but has met him. The allegations that she may have signed the non-disclosure agreements are false and malicious. It is not Ranjitha in the tape. The entire tape is edited and will not stand as evidence in the court. The entire controversy has devastated her,” said the lawyer.
Regarding Nithyananda’s alleged statement that it was Ranjitha in the tape, Mr Mendiratta said,” if Nithyananda is not in the tape how can he vouch for the lady in it?”
Ranjitha may also file a defamation case against Lenin – the former devotee of Nithyananda – who lodged a complaint against his guru. On her whereabouts, he said that she was in a “safe” place with her family.
